1934 DODGE PICKUP

Ownership by Chrysler Corporation was finally integrated into the truck line. No more were hold over engines from the Dodge Brothers times. Now it was a Chrysler, DeSoto or Plymouth six cylinder used.

The Dodge truck for 1933 was restyled and re-engineered. These trucks started a letter designation for the series. 1933 was the HC, and the "C" remained in use up to WWII, ending with the WC series model designations.

Figure this, Dodge marketed a 1/2 ton truck, and like other trucks in the industry, it shared the automobile's chassis, but was equipped with maybe larger tires, wheels, heavy duty axles and springs.

Dodge trucks then offered as the next step, a 1 1/2 ton truck.

The reason for this gap in pick up to large truck was because buyers of trucks didn't see a need for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

The industry as a whole, in 1933, sold 99,813 1/2 ton trucks, but a whopping 228,238 1 1/2 ton trucks.

Dodge commercials, as they were known, had available a chassis cowl version [build your own body, here's the chassis, a Commercial Sedan [sedan delivery], a Commercial Express [pick up] and a Commercial Panel.

Dodge truck engines were the new 190 cubic inch flathead six cylinder Plymouth with a three-speed transmission. By the way, this flathead six design was used all the way up to 1960 when the Slant Six was introduced.
